The war that started in antiquity between the accepted medical establishment and the natural health community still rages today .
Back in the days when incurable syphilis plagued the planet, natural cures tried to kill but couldn’t. Neither could the accepted medical establishment make a dent in the disease .
A disease stimulated by hormones and ignorance, even though the aristocrats wised up. But the common people shifting between poverty and little bit above couldn’t break out of the cycle of getting a
little money to buy food .
And a moments pleasure for soldiers who might be dead the next day or just spreading the disease to the conquered. For the common people there was not much future to live for .
Quarantine worked for SARS, in some places the black death, in the odd place the 1918 pandemic but it wasn’t tried for AIDS and so far it hasn’t worked for Ebola. And it didn’t work for syphilis so what else is left .
Other than a massive education campaign but they haven’t worked either. From memory I think the education campaign for AIDS had an effect .
But there was one hope, and like a lot of natural medicine wasn’t the best and didn’t seem to make a difference in the spread of the disease .
A situation similar to the present day with natural remedies curing cancer. Cancer is marching around the globe with very little standing in its way .
Natural health people go on about natural antibiotics and natural medicine, but from history nothing stopped syphilis. All the natural medicines we hear about nowadays did nothing to stop syphilis .
Honey, colloidal silver and vitamin C, so far nothing in history could kill syphilis. I’m starting to wonder if natural medicines we have nowadays for other diseases are any good .
And that hope was guiacum wood from the New World. With disease, the affected grab at straws. We see it nowadays with cancer and even SARS brought out the charlatans .
What will Ebola bring out. So far in the news somebody recommended nana silver 10% but lately I’ve heard nothing about it. Well syphilis brought a roaring trade in guiacum wood from the New World .
But what it did for the native peoples of the Americas, it didn’t do for the local people of the Old World. Maybe having syphilis was a precursor for human sacrifice. Maybe pleasing the Gods worked both ways .
Kept syphilis under control and gave the Gods something to eat. But most likely the sexual habits of the Americas varied differently from the sexual habits of 1600 century Europe. But then again if the missionaries hadn’t destroyed the books we might know what the sexual habits of the local peoples were like .
Anyway trade routes were opened and guiacum wood was a commodity that was traded like gold and silver. But if you had syphilis you would be after guiacum wood. And it turned doctors into wealthy people. Thirty years ago doctors in the west were very wealthy but now not so .
They have priced themselves out of the market. But then in the time of syphilis people clutched at straws, and doctors offered the straws .
Europe was ripe for the syphilis invasion with it’s petty wars all over the place and it’s promiscuity. There was no way to stop it, sex for sale was a part of life and invading armies took advantage of the women left over from the war. So they couldn’t stop it if they wanted to, or knew how .
Even after they knew how people got it, there was no way to stop it. It marched relentlessly on for another 500 years until antibiotics was invented .
In Ebola lands people just roll over and die as they know there is no cure, but syphilis was different, they thought there was a cure. But it seems the common people believed there to be no cure and lived with the disease until they died .
The cure I thought the most ingenious was the malaria cure. When you get malaria you have terrible fevers and these can kill the syphilis virus in your body. Malaria is then cured with quinine. Not always effective but you would try anything to get rid of the disease .
